WIP - Lilith and Sayu

This week we have a mother/daughter combo of the owl family. They share similar names, which wasn't originally intended, but just seemed to fit and work out that way.

Lilith. I imagine her being a proper Victorian lady. ("I am not amused.") With a cute, baby face. And large breastmeat.

Sayu-Lily is a spoiled little princess with a mischievous side. She's also a crybaby when she doesn't get her way. Even though I imagine her older than the hootlets (probably because she was my first owl), her human form looks younger than them. I don't know how that works out, but it does.

WIP - Foagie and Micki

This week's owl family drawings are magical! Oh yeah, I forgot to mention this last time, but the shadows on the pages are from the spirals on the drawing pad. I was stupid and didn't use extra paper to flatten the pad of paper when I scanned them in.

Grandpa Foagie. His role and personality is a parody and in-joke. The in-joke being when I first received him on Christmas, my mom said, "And who's he supposed to be? The Grandpa?" Can you guess who (hoo?) he is a parody of? Hint: Lilith is his daughter. Lilith's name is a hint, even though I named her before I even received Foagie, so the connection was unintentional.

Sensitive cutie Micki should be a bit chubbier. Ad have a more delicate expression on his face. But I'm definitely keeping the ice-skating theme in the redraw. It's so fancy and totally fits him.

More next week? Let's hope!

WIP - Toni and Napoleon Valentines

The other two Valentines that I didn't finish!

Toni is already there as far as date-appropriate attire goes. But I want to improve her pose. Maybe make it a waist up portrait so the viewer can actually imagine walking beside her.

Why. Why did I draw this. I'm starting to understand why I never finished or posted these drawings before: I was ashamed. Yes, I was going for a silly theme. Yes, Napoleon is a dork. He's not successful with the women he flirts with, mainly because he has horrible sense when it comes to choosing what girls to flirt with (like the kind not interested in boys.) But wow, this is pathetic.

With any luck (in both computer health and time) I'll have some recent Power Warp drawings to show you next week!

WIP - Jobob and Fluffy Feathers

More February-ish 2011 WIPs. My owls have an ongoing narrative, backstories, family trees, and evolving personalities. They've become close friends like my other characters, except since they have plush avatar bodies, I can talk to them and cuddle with them and pet them - interaction I can't have with, say, the crew of Power Warp (they would be even more disturbed if I could, though. I don't think they've forgiven me for some of the situations I've drawn them in.)

Also, the plush avatars make it easy for my family to play along and contribute to their personalities and backstories (and thus, Odin went from emo to free-spirited adventurer. He still has relapses, though.)

This closeness has made them seem like people (a good sign for fictional characters.) So I've imagined what they would look like as humans. These first tries don't quite capture their personalities as I wanted, but I've been sketching revisions (also not perfect, but better.)

Unkle Jobob turned out best by far of these first tries. He was the first one I drew, too. Probably because even when I got him I had a clear, strong personality in mind for him. He is so cute!

Mr. Fluffy Feathers looks too waifish here. I think I got the "gentle gentleman" character down, but the drawing itself is missing volume. Bigger paper might also fix that when I redraw it. Or I just have to focus more.

WIP - Xerxes and Caeser Valentines

I better start posting these since I've been "absent" from the Internet (from publishing much, that is.) I still need to draw and scan more WIPs. I've been concentrating on sketches lately. These WIPs are actually pretty old, from early 2011 (February-ish.) But I'm desperate for stuff to post, so here we go!

I only finished two of my 2011 Power Warp Valentine's pictures (one being Derrot and the other being a comical Caeser/Derrot pairing since it got the most votes.) Have two more.

For some reason I tried to go with fanservice with most of them. I should save that for the beach scenes and go for a more classy look for my "2012" revisions. I mean, Xerxes looks okay topless, but a suit would be more appropriate.

Caeser is supposed to look silly, but the toplessness is making me facepalm. I guess this would look better colored. Still, like Xerxes, I'd like to put him in a suit.

WIP - Self Portraits 2010 and 2011

The following drawings were done in 2010 or 2011, so too recent for me to put in "Derrotic Ruins." And since I intend to re-draw them, they fit as "WIPs." They would have been posted a long time ago, if I weren't so reluctant to color. But over time I began to think I could do better and that I would want to post a more current drawing for what I intended them for.

This was for a self-portrait that I wanted to make a new avatar from. But my fang is on the wrong side. I think I was going to be sitting on a chair, but I incorporated Sayu the owl into my drawing instead. Next time I make an avatar, it will either be just an owl or my head and maybe an owl. I'mm leaning toward just my portrait so it doesn't become too crowded.

A possible manself. One of my deviantART friends was in a manself kick and I agreed to make one, too. But I couldn't settle on one I liked. This is the most recent attempt (late 2010/early 2011), the past ones are probably trashed. I still don't like this one. I'm kind of short and baby-faced, so I'd probably be a short, boyish man, too. But maybe I have a little inner-man in me, because I feel inferior looking at such portrayals, LOL. I'd want to be a taller (or at least slightly below average height, maybe 5'8") guy! Not look like a twelve year old, as I often seem as a girl. I'd want to look good in a suit. So next time, I might have my manself wear a polo shirt or a suit and be taller. This picture just looks like current me if I taped my boobies and lifted weights more (though I already have kind of big arms.) I even dress like that sometimes, except substitute the tank top with a T-shirt.

WIP - Hellhoney Calendar

Finally, I've been getting some stuff done this merry June. I've drawn a QT Crawlie, finished one of the two below drawings, and finished drawing a huge commission project of many parts (which had better be colored, by the time you're reading this!)

I've had this one drawn since January. The perspective is horrible and this time I can't say the sofa is just turned, right? The side wall looks like it's on a whole other viewing plane and I don't know how to fix it. Help? This is supposed to be the January page of the calendar...

...While this will be the February page. Nicolina at full power (yay, muscles!!) I had this blocked out for awhile, but I finally hammered out the rest of her body shape and that daunting outfit this past weekend.

WIP - Buggin the Reindeer

Missed these? I was actually up to date with these for a moment, but then fell behind again...

Okay, so there was one more QT Crawlies picture I drew... the Promo Poster. Even though I like the poses, the anatomy is awkward and therefore needs to be redrawn. This was the first set of six I intended to release in print/card format.

One of the monsters from Toilet Spawn. This more qualifies as a sketch since this was the first drawing I ever did of the series (back at the end of 2010.) But I do like it, so maybe it's all right to just jump in and ink it? It's supposed to be a warrior reindeer, with thick, bushy eyebrows.

WIP - QT Crawlies 7

Finally, we are to the last batch of QT Crawlies I drew before deciding to start over and redraw them all (and then some) this year.

Hydra

Hydra. Okay, so this one isn't technically a bug, but my dad suggested it because of the "creepy turned cute creature" concept. (Snakes and scorpions are future possibilities for this series.) The Hydra is like an alien princess because of her microscopic and non-insectoid origin.

Scorpionfly

Scorpionfly. Some gender bending with this one, but since I lost my notes with the re-imaged laptop, I forgot why the Scorpionfly is the only male in this series (okay, technically some other insects I drew should be male, too...) Something about pretending to be female? Actually, I did write some notes in a notebook with my list of bugs. But all I wrote was "It's a trap! lol" for the Scorpionfly. I must re-research.

Mantis

Mantis. Oh, the sneaky Mantis... I don't know if there's any significance to making her look like a cat burglar, but I like her outfit nonetheless. I wish I could have a figurine of her, but I hate working with 3D stuff, usually (danger!) Something to aspire to if the project turns out not to be a failure, I guess... licensed merchandise! QT Crawlies the Cereal! QT Crawlies the Fleece Blanket! ... QT Crawlies the Bug Bomb!!

WIP - QT Crawlies 6

Now for some battle bugs and a punk! (Not really.)

Tree Hopper

Tree Hopper. This actually may be my absolute favorite of the series so far. I love my costume design for her (and maybe I love her enough to make cameos of her in my other series?!) And she looks so happy, d'aww. When (and if) I color the redraw, she's going to be quite bright and vividly colored with some of my favorite colors.

Earwig

Earwig. She and her brethren are shy and like to keep to themselves. But they fail at being ninjas and they are slower than a grandma in rush hour traffic. Nature must take pity on them to allow them to continue their pathetic annoying-ness to this day.

Firefly

Firefly. Those are supposed to be glowstick bracelets around her wrists.

WIP - QT Crawlies 5

Back again! It really shouldn't take me as long as it does to make these posts considering I had the pictures scanned and ready to upload over a week ago.

Water Strider

Water Strider. These bugs are so cool, especially the extra spiky ones. My poor Water Strider looks like she's missing her butt, though. Regardless, I hope the redraw turns out as cool, because I actually do like how it turned out.

Stink Bug

Stink Bug. I identify with this bug so much. Tacos are cool.

Love Bug

Love Bug. Okay, I know about love bugs, but please dismiss any knowledge of real love bugs when looking at this illustration. They are just twin sisters here! This is supposed to be a family friendly series. Anyway, in Florida, these bugs are such a pain. They make a mess wherever they go (much like birds, but I can forgive birds because they are cuter.)

WIP - QT Crawlies 4

And more! We're halfway through!

Satyrine Butterfly

Satyrine Butterfly. I hope I captured this insect's beautiful trickiness. It's been doing Jedi Mind Tricks before they were cool. "This is not the bug you hunger for."

Cicada

Cicada. A quiet homebody most of the time, the Cicada throws a wild party during the summer.

Army Ant

Army Ant. I hate ants. They are little imperialists. But army ants have a silly face. Ha, ha.

WIP - QT Crawlies 3

More bugs! This is actually really sad, that I've had so many drawn yet no one has seen them. When I don't post stuff, I wonder what people think I'm doing? (Assuming they think of me at all, heh.) Am I frozen like a robot? Am I goofing off playing Pokemon? (I haven't played my DS for nearly two months, and it wasn't Pokemon.) I want to play Pokemon, though...

Bumblebee

Honeybee

Anyway, the bees. Bumblebee carrying pollen and Honeybee with her honeycomb. I noticed with some insects, like the bees and the springtail, the eyes look too Bleach-ish (Honeybee looks too much like a certain semi-recent character.) I'll change that in the redraws.

Aphid

Aphid. The Aphid was drawn way too small (even though they are quite small, I want these drawings to print well. Oh, she poops love, by the way.

WIP - QT Crawlies 2

I was asked to continue posting the old QT Crawlies drawings that I intend to re-draw. Well, that's perfect because they are easier to post now that I found them all. Things that would have gone in this corner are now lined up to be inked and can be expected shortly.

Parasitic Hedgehog Fly

Parasitic Hedgehog Fly. This is one of my favorites, so spiky and tomboyish. She's munching on the leftover remnants of her host. (If I recall correctly, the flies inject their eggs into the host and the larvae eat the host from the inside out.) Very cool looking insects, though I wouldn't want to get too close to one.

Springtail

Springtail. So common (and annoying.) But certainly they are much cuter imagined this way?

Lacebug

Lacebug. These bugs are beautiful. And of course beautiful things are stuck-up and sopheeesticated.

WIP - Hellhoney Prototype Valentine's Day Cards

These were going to be Valentine's Day cards for Hellhoney last year. I actually don't think they are that bad, but I might as well re-draw them for the sake of consistency.

Though since the Sayu-Lily and the Bat one is in pencil, I wonder if I should just add the changes to it without completely re-doing it?

Mr. Fluffy Feathers and Grayson

Sayu-Lily and Bat (I have a name for him, but need advice.)

WIP - Random Calendar Pencils

From my Random Silly Illustrations calendar. They are kind of like a continuation of the series of strange drawings I did for class my last semester at University (Cute Things Turned Ugly and Unlikely Bikini Photoshoot Locations.) Like the Optimizzy calendar pictures, I'm pleased with how these turned out, which is probably why I completed so many from each series (the fact they are both simple probably has a lot to do with it, too.) So I likely won't re-draw these either. I can instead have an extra half hour to draw more Hellhoney and the other major projects.

January

February

Why would I even draw these when I have so many more ambitious projects to work on? Sometimes it just feels good to doodle something weird for the heck of it. It's relaxing.

WIP - Zodiac Capricorn and The Rat Prototypes

These are from the much awaited Zodiac series (I only say "much" because it got the most votes in that interest poll I held last year.) The Capricorn is surrounded by pollution, but I want a cleaner, better drawn version (but not cleaner in regards to the pollution, heh.) The Rat completely missed its alleged personality traits, which was the entire purpose of the project: to take the personality traits or characteristics of the signs and make fun of them. A sleeping Rat does not make sense. I'm re-doing this series. (The Ox turned out okay, but might as well re-draw it, too.)

Capricorn

The Rat

WIP - Optimizzy Calendar

These are from the Optimizzy calendar. Because I'm pleased with them, I won't be re-drawing them. Even though this is a simple series (of a creature that is always happy no matter what befalls it) maybe I can make up for the simple lineart with lighting effects when I color it. I really hate coloring, but I should challenge myself with this so I can have a wide range of skills. (Luckily, fireworks give a good stepping stone for such a goal!)

WIP - QT Crawlies Prototype

These chibi insects are part of the QT Crawlies project I'm working on. I'm redrawing them all because 1.) They need to be bigger so they will look nicer when I make prints of them, and 2.) I think I can draw better now.

Nailhead Termite

Dragonfly

Hissing Cockroach

It sucks to start over after having so much done (nearly two dozen, thank goodness none were colored), but since I intend to sell these images on products, I want them to look my best.
