WIP - Zodiac Capricorn and The Rat Prototypes

These are from the much awaited Zodiac series (I only say "much" because it got the most votes in that interest poll I held last year.) The Capricorn is surrounded by pollution, but I want a cleaner, better drawn version (but not cleaner in regards to the pollution, heh.) The Rat completely missed its alleged personality traits, which was the entire purpose of the project: to take the personality traits or characteristics of the signs and make fun of them. A sleeping Rat does not make sense. I'm re-doing this series. (The Ox turned out okay, but might as well re-draw it, too.)

  1. Okay, the Capricorn is adorbs. And Pokemon-ish. >.> *hides* Can I have it?

*plays with the big rat feet* What characteristics are you trying to make fun of? (Looks like I need to brush up on astrology)

    1. Of course you can have it! Rescue him from the pollution! XD I'm guessing Pokemon influences my designs a bit. Also, I drew a bunch of Pokemon around the time I drew this, if I remember correctly. The new Capricorn will probably change a bit and look more goat-ish, though.

I need to look them up first! I'm not as familiar with the Eastern zodiac, so I have a book to help me. The problem with the Rat is... I didn't look at the book before drawing it. Apparently Rats are more like chatty busybodies. Oops. XD

(And the Capricorn is making fun of their stubbornness. And their symbol eats trash, so an exaggerated Capricorn that doesn't want to waste might eat trash, too! But in this case, I'm making more fun at their symbol than their characteristics. XD)

    2. The Capy does look more dragon than goat but that makes it unique. Does it really need to be more like the original symbol? Maybe during the re-draw, he can become a freakish goat. Like Pan (Pan's Labyrinth) or the goat from Drag Me To Hell. >.> *grabs him and runs*

I think Rat people don't like being Rat people (with the stigma attached to the rodents 'n all). Maybe some self-hatred in there somewhere? >.> Nah, too morbid. (How will you illustrate a "chatty busybody?")

The Capy eats trash? What symbol version are you looking at? o.O

    3. I'll just see how he turns out *not going into the drawing with any set idea so I won't be disappointed again. 8D * I do intend for him to look less simple-cartoony and slightly more goat-like. Think of my rabbit riding on a carrot. XD

Same with Pig people, I guess. Because it's the Eastern Zodiac, though, there are different perceptions of the animal's characters, I've heard. Remember, Europe got bubonic plague and America got McDonalds and Paula Deen (her cooking), so it's no wonder the Western world doesn't like rats and pigs so much. :P (And as for "chatty busybody"... I'm still trying to figure out how to illustrate it. D: )

Capy are stubborn! But that's more of a visual pun... these Zodiac might be a mixture of both character satire and visual puns. But I can't think of a visual pun for the Rat (because it's not as odd as a Sea Goat), so I'll have to go with character satire for it! ^^
